I'm Back!

I'm back from vacation. How was it you ask? It was good. I was a little surprised at myself when I visited a few of the monuments...I wasn't moved as I thought I would be. I truly felt as though I had been there many times before, therefore there was no excitement. How strange was that.

OH, I did have a high point. I tried taking a picture of a squirrel eating on something for my daugther. (She loves animals and I'm certain this is the one picture she'll be most interested in.) A homeless person tried to scare the squirrel away, then he tried to scare me away. I stood my ground and aimed my camera at the squirrel and ignored the man. My suitor, made a successful attempt to distract the homeless man's attention on me to him. And it worked.

I wasn't the least bit scared of the man, probably because it was in broad daylight and there were tons of people around. My date was so proud of himself for distracting the guy, that I had to bit my tongue so I would say "but I wasn't afraid of the guy." I know men need to feel needed and that one small statement could have ruined the rest of our day. I thought it was rather noble of him to "protect" me so I gave him a big grin and said "thank you!"

  1. Random thought: I took a class trip to Washington DC in middle school and I very clearly remembering being instructed by our chaperones that we were not to take pictures of homeless people. Honestly, the thought hadn't even occurred to me even though I had never seen a homeless person. But the idea of taking their pictures seemed so hilarious to my little 8th grade self that it became a mission to capture some on film.

Now that I put that in writing it is a little embarrassing but I was in 8th grade and somewhat immature. I did get pooped on by a pigeon on the same trip so that must have been karma.

  2. Ha... I Like mandy's comment... I was living in Dc during 8th grade and much of highscool... But I remember a bunch of my okc friends coming to dc for the field trip and we got to meet up and all hand out for the week which was fun. Sorry you didn't have a great time being impressed by the monuments... I think everything there is so impressive yet maybe some things are just not what u expected... I remember thinking the White house would have been a whole lot bigger... Although in retrospect it is huge... just doesn't look so big from the street so far away... you used to be able to drive right along side the fence in front of it... but now it's all blocked off... Did you go on a tour inside the wh or capital or nat'l monument?

  3. While you were in D.C. i should have asked you to get something back for me from there. I think they have it over at some building called IRS or something like that. Let me know when you are going back I will get you a sack to bring it back in.

    Thanks for your help,

    Tre'

  4. The story about the squirrel is funny. I agree that D.C. can get familiar after a while. There's always a lot to do there tho! It's a tad more expensive there though versus here. To me it is also less scary than New York, in which I got lost :-(
